Creating My Parents and I as Miis

Creating my personality type based on a video game.

For grins, I recreated my parents and I in the new Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream game by Nintendo. I selected from a range of traits to let the game generate our personality type.

In case it's helpful, below are the main points covered in this post:

About the Game

Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream is a life simulation game where you, the player, are the caretaker of Mii (pronounce "me"). Players do the following on their Mii island:

  • Create Miis to inhabit the island.

  • Fulfill Miis' needs and happiness requests.

  • Facilitate Mii relationships.

  • Customize the landscape, building, clothing, food, treasure, and more.

  • Watch Miis live their semi-autonomous lives.

  • Watch Miis' dreams.

There is likely more to the game, but this is my first introduction to it, so there is still a lot for me to learn.

When creating a Mii, players select within a range of various traits that determine a Mii's personality:

  • Movement (slow-to-quick)

  • Speech (polite-to-honest)

  • Energy (flat-to-varied)

  • Thinking (serious-to-chill)

  • Overall (normal-to-quirky)

After setting the traits, Miis are assigned to one of the following personality categories (North American region):

  • Considerate

    • Sweetie

    • Cheerleader

    • Buddy

    • Daydreamer

  • Outgoing

    • Charmer

    • Go-Getter

    • Merrymaker

    • Dynamo

  • Reserved

    • Strategist

    • Perfectionist

    • Observer

    • Thinker

  • Ambitious

    • Achiever

    • Visionary

    • Rogue

    • Maverick

It is not uncommon for players to create themselves and those they know in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream. I did just that to see what chaotic situations our Miis get into. I had so much fun including myself and my parents in the game!

My Mii

I consider myself to be a slow mover, overly polite, and very quirky. My energy and thinking are mid-range based on the scale provided in-game.

The game determined that my Mii character was "considerate." At a glance, my Mii was "amicable." The traits were "thoughtful, honest, innocent. Does things at their own pace."

As a "buddy," my Mii was "trustworthy and considerate. Puts their friends first and works hard to make sure everyone gets along."

I partially agree with the personality the game assigned to my Mii. I am thoughtful and considerate of others. However, I consider myself more of a reserved Mii. I may change my personality in-game one day, but I also do not mind the "considerate" assignment.

Nothing interesting happened to my Mii during my first days of gameplay. No love interests. No admirers. No enemies. However, I have made many friends in-game, something I do not have in real life. So, I am happy with how my Mii life is going.

My parents, on the other hand, have had a lot going on in their Mii lives.

Dad Mii

When I first created my Dad's Mii, I must have selected the wrong trait ranges because the game said he was a sociable merrymaker. HA! Dad is the most anti-social person I know. Fortunately, the game allowed me to modify his personality.

I set most of the traits in the middle-range. Dad is the type of person to be polite to strangers but honest to anyone else, so his "speech" range is closer to the "honest" side.

The game determined that Dad's Mii character was "confident" and "ambitious." His Mii was "a by-the-book straight talker. Puts a premium on results."

As an "achiever," Dad's Mii was "diligent, productive, and highly efficient. Equally skilled at planning and executing plans."

This personality fits Dad and his military background (retired Air Force). However, Dad is a lot more of a laid-back, anti-social, and lazy retiree, so I can also picture him as a reserved Mii.

Dad's Mii has a few close friends in-game. Recently, the game celebrated his birthday. My Mii was the only one to celebrate with his Mii, but that was good enough and realistic.

Dad had an admirer for nearly a week. Yzma (based on the character from The Emperor's New Groove movie) had a crush on Dad's Mii.

Dad rejected her affections repeatedly, but her feelings for him remain strong until this morning. Sadly, she decided, against my wishes, to give up her feelings for Dad.

Mom Mii

Setting Mom's traits were easier to choose than the other two Miis. Mom is predictable, consistent, and set in her ways. There is not a lot of variation with her personality and behavior.

I set Mom's Mii to be slow moving, low/flat energy, serious thinker, and somewhat normal overall. Like Dad, I set her "speech" range closer to the "honest" side.

The game determined that Mom's Mii character was "reserved" and "aloof." Her Miis was "logical, tenacious, cautious. Speaks matter-of-factly."

As a "thinker," Mom's Mii was "thoughtful and introspective. Great at thinking things through and analyzing issues from every angle."

I agree with the "aloof" part, but not much else. I have not changed her personality in-game because I do not know what else fits her best.

I can picture her as a "charmer" since she tends to sweet talk people into doing things for her. Otherwise, I may leave her personality as-is since it seemed to help her find the potential love of her life.

Don Lothario, a serial romantic based on The Sims lore, immediately fell in love with Mom's Mii after I created him. It took a few days before Mom's Mii fell in love with him.

Today, Mom and Don are sweethearts despite their age gap (50 year gap) living together under one roof. I am hopeful their relationship remains strong because the cut scenes involving the two are sweet and fun to watch.

Mom's Mii also has feelings for Dad's Mii. Dad's Mii, on the other hand, seems indifferent to Mom's Mii. It would be interesting to see if their Miis fall in love in-game. That would be hilarious!
