My 2026 Creative Resolutions

Making one main objective and several wishes.

For 2026, I made myself one main creative objective to focus on and several creative wishes that I would like to complete.

In case it's helpful, below are the main points covered in this post:

My Non-Creative Resolution

This year, I plan to focus more on me so that I can be well enough to support the ones I love when needed.

A health scare from last year helped me realize that I never truly prioritized my physical or mental health. Although putting myself first feels like a selfish and inconsiderate thing to do, it is my main non-creative resolution for 2026.

My Main Creative Objective

One of my minor wishes/goals in 2024 was to paint on a large (to me) canvas. Unfortunately, I never had a chance to start any large project.

This year, my creative resolution is to paint on a large canvas. An abstract painting seems too easy, so I am hoping to complete a landscape or still-life painting. I would consider painting an animal (I would love to have a large canvas painting of my first dog) if I could convince myself that I was skilled enough to do so.

Even if my painting turned out horribly, I just want to do it.

My Creative Wishes/Goals

There are four other creative things I want to do, but it would not upset me if I were unable to pursue or complete them. Since these are not a major focus for me this year, I decided to label them as wishes/goals.

  1. Make a polymer clay figure larger than one inch tall. I would really love to make myself a Psyduck to sit alongside my seven inch Goomba.

  2. Draw/paint in my sketchbook significantly more than years past. Last year, I drew or painted no more than a handful of times monthly. This year, I hope to do so more frequently. Twice weekly seems reasonable since I frequently get caught up in other things.

  3. Complete a non-Woobles crochet project. I fell on The Woobles bandwagon after my first time crocheting with one of their kits. I have completed several Woobles' projects, but look forward to branching out using other patterns.

  4. Learn a new skill or craft. There are several things at the ready waiting to be used. Book binding, 3D pen art, and diamond painting are crafts I already own materials for. I just need to give them a try.

What's Next?

If I do not believe I can complete my resolutions, I can always take part in Ditch New Year's Resolution Day on 17 January. Hopefully, I set reasonable and achievable creative goals for myself.
